Highlights from 2017

We have had a wonderful 2017 filled with so many amazing couples, families, and venues. We truly have loved sharing all these memories with you (this video even makes us a bit emotional because it shows so many fun times!), and we can’t wait to see what 2018 brings!

Enjoy this video of our 2017 highlights. Can you spot your wedding or photoshoot?

Keilani & Sean’s Christmas Samoan Wedding

ShootAnyAngle Photography, ShootAnyAngle.com

We first met Keilani and Sean a year ago at their engagement shoot in Downtown San Jose’s Christmas in the Park.  We instantly could feel the connection between these two.  They make each other laugh constantly, and we love it!

The bride and groom started by getting ready at The Westin San Jose before heading to Holy Family Parish for the ceremony followed by a Samoan reception at the San Jose Police Officer Association Hall.  Keilani, a professional softball player, even brought her mitt along!

Keilani and Sean met in American Samoa.  Sean was visiting family and Keilani was putting on a softball clinic.  So, they incorporated the Samoan culture throughout their reception.  Guests were given leis as they entered, Samoan dancers performed, and a full traditional meal was served – complete with a roasted pig!  Everyone felt like they were part of the Samoan family – including us!  Actually, James here at ShootAnyAngle was actually born in American Samoa, so it was very special for us too!  They even made sure that we were gifted leis as well.  It was so touching and made the day even more amazing.

Keilani and Sean’s guests came from all over the world to celebrate with them, and they had an absolutely wonderful time.  In this day and age, it’s not always easy to get everyone together for a celebration (especially when the bride is a professional softball player and the groom is in the US Army). However, for Keilani and Sean, their family and friends would do anything to come together and make a special day for them.  One guest even booked a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica on accident.  That didn’t stop him from then turning around and flying out to San Jose, California!

Bri and Neil’s University Maternity Shoot

ShootAnyAngle PhotographyWe are simply over the moon about Bri and Neil’s baby-on-the-way.  We are so happy to see her baby bump and the joy on their faces!  They are going to make wonderful parents, and we are truly honored to be the ones to capture this special time.

Bri is a graduate of Santa Clara University (as is Angela of ShootAnyAngle Photography), so SCU seemed the perfect spot for the maternity shoot.  It turns out that Neil almost went to the same university too!  These two were meant to meet, and luckily, they did soon after.  The rest is history!

April & Gabriel’s Biker Anniversary Shoot

ShootAnyAngle Photography

It’s such a treat for us when we get to see our past clients again.  We’ve been so fortunate to work with absolutely AMAZING brides and grooms, and we miss you all once the wedding is over.  So, we get so excited when we get together for another shoot!  For April and Gabriel, it was for their one-year anniversary.  Their theme?  Harley’s!

ShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle Photography

It was simply a blast photographing them at the tranquil Uvas Reservoir in Morgan Hill on their Harley Davidson motorcycles.  They both love going out for rides, so it was the perfect getaway to meet in the hills for a shoot.  And we absolutely were gaga over the fact that they wanted their Harley’s featured.

ShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle Photography ShootAnyAngle Photography ShootAnyAngle.comShootAnyAngle Photography

At the end of the shoot, April and Gabriel suggested that we hop on their bikes and get in front of the camera for a change.  There is only one answer to when someone asks if you want to pose with a Harley: “Sure!”  This is yet another reason why we love our clients.  They are just so sweet!

Happy Anniversary, April and Gabriel!

Ariel & David’s Film Noir Engagement Shoot

ShootAnyAngle Photography

We first met Ariel and David at another wedding back in 2015, so we were thrilled when we heard that they were engaged!  Both lovers of film, they decided to do something unique for their engagement shoot: a film noir style shoot right where Hitchcock’s Vertigo was filmed at Fort Point in San Francisco.  We were immediately obsessed with the idea and started counting down the days until the photoshoot.

ShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle Photography

For us, this photoshoot was a big treat.  The popular wedding style is to look bright with lots of light, high key images.  This shoot allowed us to play with heavy contrast, stark lighting and deep blacks.  Engagement photos are the perfect time to play with different styles and find a unique venue to pose with!

ariel.david.4-1ASH_0485ariel.david.2-1ASH_0706bw

Ariel and David had such a fun time with their shoot, and it shows through in their images.  They have spent most of their lives in San Francisco, so shooting underneath the iconic Golden Gate Bridge was perfect.  Plus, it gave them the chance to step in front of the camera and into one of the old movies they love so much.

After seeing their wonderful and creative idea for an engagement shoot, we literally cannot wait to see what they have planned for their wedding!

Melanie & Adam’s Winery Harvest Reception

Melanie&Adam.7Melanie and Adam seriously give us wedding goals!  After a stunning Hawaiian wedding on the beaches of Maui, the couple returned back to the mainland for a harvest winery reception at Kirigin Cellars.  That way, friends and family could enjoy the celebration even if they weren’t able to make it out to the islands.  This couple is all about including those close to them, and it makes everyone feel like family!  They even made sure that their little dog was part of the celebration!

ShootAnyAngle Photography ShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle PhotographyShootAnyAngle Photography

We absolutely loved their fun harvest theme.  It was done so beautifully and was perfect for an October wedding.  To add to the family feel, the couple even brought in a mariachi band and even a piñata!  The bride and groom even got their turn with the bat!

At the end of the night, the couple brought everyone to an after party at a Morgan Hill Bowl!  It was a perfect day!

Fatima & Robert’s Wine Themed Labor Day Weekend Wedding

ShootAnyAngle Photography

This Labor Day weekend was unique not just for the record-breaking heat (it reached 114 degrees in Gilroy), but also for the beautiful wedding of Fatima and Robert!  They began the day with a beautiful ceremony and mass at St. Catherine of Alexandria in Morgan Hill, and then the bridal party and their guests continued the celebration at Kirigin Cellars in Gilroy.  We always love working at that venue since they really kept photography in mind when designing the building and grounds.  There are just so many great backdrops!

ShootAnyAngle Photography

ASH_3139

We absolutely loved Fatima and Robert’s wine-meets-rustic-glam decor.  They perfectly used deep reds, warm browns, and pops of glittery gold throughout the tablescapes and decorations.  It went great with the wine theme.  The cake even had wine glasses as the topper with little marzipan grapes decorating each tier!  To continue with the theme, guests signed corks and even wrote little messages on them to be stored in a custom shadow box for the couple to hang in their home.  Fatima and Robert also brought in the comforts of summer to their big day by having lawn games outside, cold alcoholic treats inside, and even free flip flops for the guests to use!  We also set up our ShootAnyAngle Photo Booth for them as well, and the guests had a great time.

Fatima and Robert were absolutely on cloud nine and nothing could put a damper on their perfect day – not even the heat!  It’s such a treat for us when a couple can make each other laugh and smile with just a glance.  These two definitely could!  We just sat back and snapped away as they exchanged cute moments as if they were the only ones in the world.  As photographers, we love when that happens!

What to Wear to Your Engagement Shoot

AJH_1172_1If you have an engagement shoot coming up, you’re probably wondering what to wear, and there are some outfits that are better than others.  Think about these tips when picking out your outfit.

AJH_3904WMWear solid colors or large prints (avoid small prints and logos)

Small prints can hurt the eye, and some screens will even show a rainbow effect when showing off the photos.  So, stick to solids and large prints. Checkered prints and stripes are fine as long as they aren’t really tight.

Avoid neon colorsshootanyangle.com/weddings/

Neon will be quite blinding in a photo.  Though the photographer can dull down the color a tad in post-editing, it’s best to avoid it.

_AJH3421.2WMJeans are fine

Engagement photos are supposed to be natural feeling, so you don’t have to be dressed to the nines (you certainly can be if you want to though!)  Thus, jeans and a nice top are just fine.

Dress for the location and activityAJH_1905WM

Talk with your photographer to plan the shoot, and let them know what you’d like to do.  Then, plan the outfit accordingly.  If you want to take pictures in the city, heels are fine, but more comfortable and supportive shoes would be needed for a wooded area.  Dresses are fine in any area (this includes floor-length if you can move in it), but I recommend wearing bicycle shorts (or similar) underneath.  The reason for this is your fiancé may lift you in the air, or you may lay down in a field of daisies, or you may jump to make it look like you’re flying.  Photography can be a more physical task than most anticipate, so make sure the outfit is comfortable and conceals all it needs to conceal even when moving around.  That means nothing to short or too revealing.

Consider your personalities_AJH4755.2WM

Dress similarly (though maybe a tad nicer) than you normally dress.  If you never wear jeans, don’t wear them for the shoot.  If you never wear dresses, don’t wear one for the shoot.  The reason behind this is two-fold: 1, you should be comfortable in what you’re wearing (especially since being a model may be a tad uncomfortable at times), and 2, you should look like yourself.  These photos are supposed to represent who you are both as individuals and as a couple, so let your personality shine through.  That also means that if you like particular outfits or costumes, wear it!  Just talk with your photographer ahead of time as some locations require normal dress (the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is an example of this).

Accessorize!

Feel free to add in cowboy boots or an accessory or a specialty item.  Add a strand of pearls or your favorite earrings or even bring along props!  Shoots look great with bouquets or old cameras or even little bird cage veils if that’s what you’d like.

Have fun!!

Pretty Little Details: Inspiration Shots for Your Wedding!

When planning a wedding, you should know the three things that mean the most to you (apart from marrying the spouse of your dreams because that’s just a given!). For me, it was photography first, details second, and location third. I feel the details are what make a wedding special. It’s a glimpse into a fairytale romance. Little details and two people in love make for the best photographs! Take a look at the following photos for inspiration for your big day! Remember, these are just inspiration shots, so alter the details to make the final product your own. In my opinion, a wedding should always be unique to the couple. That’s what makes it special!
